CV: Hélène Dessales (°1972) is specialized in building processes in the cities of the Roman word and more specifically in hydraulic systems. After her PhD (2002, Université of Aix-Marseille, supervisor Prof. Pierre Gros) on the distribution of water in Roman dwelling, she has led several field missions, in Italy, at Pompeii and Ostia antica, in Spain, at Itálica and in France, at Barbegal, Genainville and Alésia. Since 2015, she conducts a pluridisciplinary research project on the Villa of Diomedes in Pompeii and on post-seismic building techniques in Roman Campania (ANR RECAP). She is an ancient research fellow of the Ecole française de Rome (2000-2003) and is a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. She is one of the organizers of the three recent international workshops on building processes in the Roman world.
